4TH ANNUAL COLUMBUS IMPROV FESTIVAL HOSTED BY COLUMBUS UNSCRIPTED
OCTOBER 21-26 at WILD GOOSE CREATIVE
Columbus Unscripted is THRILLED to announce their schedule for the 4th Annual Columbus Improv Festival with a fusion of improv, stand up, storytelling and music. The festival kicks off Wednesday October 21st, with free workshops for kids with a performance immediately following for friends and family. The week will be BURSTING with talent from over TEN groups in the Columbus area as well as performers from Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Chicago, LA, and New York. These talented comedians and artists will be performing as well as teaching workshops ranging from long-form improv, to storytelling, and stand-up!
Columbus’ own, and Ohio University Graduate, Tara DeFrancisco will be teaching workshops as well as performing, in her show, Tara and Rance, with fellow improviser, Rance Rizzutto. Together, they are “two best friends doing musical improv around the world.” DeFrancisco was heralded as the “Funniest Person in Chicago” by the Free Press, and “30 Under 30” in The Windy City Times. Tara teaches improv at ComedySportz, iO, and The Second City in Chicago.
Hitch-Cocktails will be headlining with their improvisational story telling to the classic style of Alfred Hitchcock. The night is sure to be filled with mystery and intrigue! They will also be teaching workshops on Long form improv.
Pistil and Stamen, Chicago-based duo, Taylor Overstreet and Tully McLoughlin who have been seen performing at The Second City, The Playground Theatre, Music Comedy Live, Westside Improv, and more, will be performing their long-form improvisation as well as teaching workshops.
Rob Speer, a stand-up comedian based out of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Chicago’s Second City Training Center will be delighting audiences on the stage as well as teaching workshops on standup comedy.
Comedian and improviser, Jamie Campbell will be headlining with his Chicago-based group Lyons and Campbell as well as teaching two workshops. Campbell was named Chicago’s “Best Stand-Up” in 2013 in the Chicago Reader’s annual Best of Chicago Issue. He recorded his debut album, Tell Me You’re Proud of me, at last year’s Columbus Unscripted Improv Festival which soared to #1 on Amazon!
Kelsie Huff is a Chicago based Comedian who has traveled far and wide performing shows and festivals from New Orleans, to Boston Women in Comedy Festival, and more! She has been described as having “an infectious joyousness that makes you happy to be alive.” She has also been described as a “Midwestern American Intangible Cultural Treasure.” Her shows and workshops are not to be missed!
Columbus’ own national storyteller Kevin Cordi will be conducting a workshop on storytelling. “Kevin shares stories with a highly energetic, animated and interactive style and is considered by many storytelling professionals as one of the most influential and dynamic storytellers and teachers today.”
Mikaela Hunt “Journalist & Social Media Butterfly” will be sharing a story as inspiration for Columbus Unscripted Sassy Do! Improv group. Turning story into improvised scenes, the night could go anywhere!
The Ladies of Speak Easy will round off the storytelling night with true stories told live. The night is sure be full of authentic, human, moments, that inspire.
Larry Smith, founder and editor of SMITH Magazine, and creator of the Six-Word Memoir, “a project aiming to engage and connect people in a conversation about the city” will be leading a special Six in the City performance.
The festival will end with a standup night on Monday October 26th with Columbus’ own Leslie Battle headlining. Come to play and laugh, sign up available online to give standup a try.
